A unified motor insurance system will start operating in the Union State on January 1, 2025, according to the amendments to the federal law "On compulsory motor third party liability insurance of vehicle owners", which were adopted on November 27 by the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia, BELTA reports.

"At the latest meetings, we have adopted a number of laws to harmonize the legislation of Russia and Belarus within the Union State. This is very important for citizens so that they are equally protected and can enjoy the same rights. In fact, this is the main goal of the Union State - to improve the quality of life of citizens", noted Valentina Matviyenko, speaker of the upper house of the Russian parliament.

According to the adopted document, only insurers with a permanent place of residence in Russia or Belarus can conclude MTPL contracts within the insurance system of the Union State. At the same time, vehicles must be registered on the territory of the Union State, the source added.
