KOSOVO, 3Q2013: Lower premiums and a loss of almost EUR 100.000
kosovo-statisticsAccording to data published by the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo (CBK), the insurance market reported a negative result in 3Q2013. Gross written premiums totaled EUR 60.2 million, or 5% less as compared to the January-September 2012 period. At the same time, the paid claims of insurers increased by 37% to EUR 29.5 million.

In terms of number of contracts, the local insurers sold almost 730 thousand policies, 152 thousand more than in 3Q2012. This surplus is due the sales growth of MTPL (42 thousand policies more), and border policies (87 thousand policies more).

According to the Central Bank's statistics, insurers' technical reserves amounted to EUR 72.7 million, while the "profit/loss account" of the insurance market was negative: EUR -96.4 thousand compared to a positive result of EUR 2.7 million a year before.
