Austrian insurance group UNIQA said this week its unit SIGAL UNIQA has been granted a life insurance permit in Kosovo. UNIQA has been operationally active in the property insurance segment in Kosovo since 2003.

"Developments in Kosovo have also proved pleasing for UNIQA in the past few years: SIGAL UNIQA has worked its way up to number two on the market, with a market share of 12.9% and a half year premium volume of around EUR 5.0 million per June 30. Market share rose slightly by 0.2 percentage points. The premium volume rose by an excellent 11.1 percent compared to 2010", the Austrian insurance group said in the press release.

Total underwritings' volume of the Kosovo insurance market stood, by the end of June 2011, at EUR 38 million, 9.2% more than in 1H 2010 - show data published by the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo.
