MOLDOVA: About 15% of MTPL claims, submitted based on settlement agreement, are incorrect

19 March 2024 — Marina MAGNAVAL
Last year, about 15% of MTPL claims based on settlement agreements were filed incorrectly. It is noted that during the first 8 months of 2023, 5,302 such applications were submitted, bizlaw.md writes.

According to the National Commission for Financial Markets (CNPF), the most common deficiencies relate to the absence of photographs or presentation of photographs that do not fully reflect the circumstances of an accident.

Settlement agreement is a simplified and voluntary procedure for documenting a road accident in which two vehicles were involved and which resulted in minor material damage, the cost of which does not exceed MDL 15 thousand (~EUR 784).

The procedure of settlement agreement for road accidents was launched in Moldova in September 2019. From 2019 to September 2023, drivers filed nearly 30,000 settlement claims, of which 25,600 were settled. The total amount of compensation paid during the period reached MDL 219 million (~EUR 11.44 million), of which MDL 33 million represented damage paid for road accidents settled through an amicable agreement.
