UKRAINE: in May MTIBU paid over UAH 50 million from the Victim Protection Fund

In May 2024, MTIBU (Motor Transport Insurance Bureau of Ukraine) made 806 regulatory payments from the Victim Protection Fund for a total amount of UAH 50.1 million (~EUR 1.14 million), which is 24.6% more in number and 25.7% more in amount y-o-y, Forinsurer writes.

Damage caused by owners of uninsured vehicles remains the main category of compensation payments. The number of such payments increased by 9.6%, and the amount by 14.85% y-o-y. In May 2024, the number of payments reached 491, and the amount was UAH 32.6 million.

The share of payments for uninsured vehicles in May 2024 was 60.9% of the total amount of payments vs 69.24% in 2023.

The second category is payments for drivers of preferential categories. In May 2024, 149 such payments were made in the amount of UAH 9.8 million, which is 19.2% more in number and 22% more in amount y-o-y. The share of payments for such drivers is 18.5% of the total amount of payments from the Victim Protection Fund, the source writes.
