During the first half of this year, the number of companies that purchased employer's health insurance to cover medical expenses of their employees increased by 11% - 1400 employers have insured 60,000 employees, which is the highest result since the launch of this insurance product in 2018.

At the same time, employers have purchased 3,000 liability insurance contracts, and this has remained at the same level for the past seven years, according to the statistics of the Estonian Insurance Association (EKsL).

According to EKsL board member Andres Piirsalu, employers are increasingly insuring their employees' medical expenses, but not their own liability as employers. According to the Labor Inspectorate, last year there were a total of 3,314 occupational accidents and 13 occupational diseases. Based on the statistics, Piirsalu noted that there are many accidents at work, but only a few employers have insurance that covers an employee’s costs in the event of an accident or occupational disease.

In 1H2024, insurance companies paid on the employer's health insurance claims a total of EUR 7 million and only EUR 53,000 on liability insurance claims, the Association added.
