The 6.8-magnitude earthquake that hitted eastern Turkey on 24 January can generate losses for insurers, mentioning that about one third (35%) of houses localised in the affected province (Elazig) had been insured, informed Middle East Insurance Review quoting local officials

"43,000 residential properties out of 123,000 in Elazig are insured", said Mete GULER, the chairman of Turkish Catastrophe Insurance Pool (DASK) quoted by the mentioned source. He added that in all of eastern Turkey, the rate of insurance is about 40%.

At the same time, "thedisaster injured 1,607 people and killed more than 40".

"After assessing the damages, we will determine the compensation amounts and will make the payments as soon as possible," he said.
