Georgian Government will subsidize health insurance

mikheil_saakashviliGeorgian Government and insurance companies have signed an agreement which includes the initiative of President of Georgia, Mikheil SAAKASHVILI, about the accessibility of population to health insurance.

On Monday, February 16, Mikheil SAAKASHVILI discussed this project with representatives of the private sector, Minister of Health, Minister of Economic Development and Minister of Finance. In this meeting were discussed the views of representatives of the private insurance sector and negotiated the details of this project.

The new project represents a significant moment for the welfare of society and for the entire system of health care, SAAKASHVILI added.


According to Health Minister, Alexander KVITASHVILI, insurance policy provides for free medical services for emergency and primary health care and ambulatory services.
The insured sum for this policy will be about 5000 USD.

Minister of Finance, Kaha BAINDURASHVILI, said that for the first phase of the project there are reserved approx. 9.3 million USD for the second phase 25 million USD.
Health insurance price for this year will be approx. U.S. $ 12.5.
