According to official statistics, personal vehicle insurance prices increased by 281.8% in January of this year, becoming the main inflationary factor in the first month.
The sharp increase in MTPL prices is due to the doubling of the insured amount from 2026, from the previous UZS 40 million to UZS 80 million (~EUR 5,525). As a result, the price of insurance for passenger vehicles in the regions has quadrupled.
According to World Bank statistics, the consumer price index in Uzbekistan has increased by 160% over the past five years, the minimum wage - by 265%, and the basic calculation value (BCV) - by 168%. As a result, prices for cars, their parts and components, and repair services are rising.
The National Agency of Prospective Projects (NAPP) noted that insured amount and premiums in Uzbekistan were at the lowest compared to neighboring countries, including Russia, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan. Considering proposals from the Society of Actuaries of Uzbekistan, NAPP proposed increasing MTPL payments to UZS 80 million.
