STATISTICS: MONTENEGRO, 1H2026: Claims expenses grow faster than GWP, driven by motor insurance

According to preliminary figures published by the Insurance Supervision Agency of Montenegro (ISA), the business of Montenegrin insurers increased by 11.88% y-o-y in the first half of 2026, reaching EUR 84.79 million. Paid claims increased at the same time by 16.3%, to EUR 33.5 million.

Life insurance continues to hold a less than 20% share in the market portfolio, with GWP worth EUR 15.5 million. Non-life portfolio also remained almost unchanged, with only marginal alterations of the different LoBs weight in the total business. As such, mandatory MTPL insurance remained the largest LoB, accounting for 32% of the total GWP or about 39% of the non-life business.

Wiener Städtische životno osiguranje leads the life insurance market, controlling almost half of the life GWP. The company ended 1H2026 with GWP worth EUR 7.49 million, 20% up y-o-y.

On the non-life side, Lovćen osiguranje – part of the Slovene Triglav Group – maintained its leadership position, with a 34.5% market share and GWP worth EUR 23.87 million.
