In 2025, the number of motor insurance claims in Estonia decreased by 3% compared to 2024. A total of 32,601 cases were registered in Estonia last year, with a total loss of EUR 77 million, according to the Estonian Motor Insurance Fund (LKF).

“A decrease in the total number of traffic accidents was due to the milder winter at the beginning of the year and in December and low precipitation, which usually also means fewer collisions caused by slippery roads”, commented Andres Piirsalu, member of the board of the LKF.

However, in July 2025, the number of motor liability insurance cases in Estonia was more than ever before in these months this century. Compared to the average of the last ten years, the July figure was 8% higher and the September figure was 7% higher. "The high number of traffic accidents in the summer months is worrying. While the number of traffic insurance cases often remains around 2,000–2,400 per month in winter months, in the second half of summer it usually reaches 2,600–2,800 cases", said Piirsalu.

The data on motor insurance cases comes from the Estonian Motor Insurance Register and does not include voluntary vehicle insurance (Motor Hull).

The key takeaways of the LKF report:

  • In Estonia, 32,601 motor liability insurance cases were registered in 2025, which is 3% less than in 2024.
