STATISTICS: CZECH REPUBLIC insurance market was up by 2.1% y-o-y in 2016

At the end of 2016, the aggregate GWP value of the Czech insurance market amounted, according to the Czech Insurance Association (CAP), to CZK 118.5 billion (about EUR 4.4 billion), meaning a 2.1% y-o-y growth rate.

The life insurance segment showed a negative dynamic (-1.8% y-o-y to EUR 1.6 billion), while the non-life sector was up by 4.5% y-o-y to EUR 2.8 billion.

As far as the non-life segment was concerned - the two motor sub-segments (MTPL and MoD) and Industry & Business policies (cl. 5-6, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13 - without workers' compensation) - generated together about 77% of non-life GWP or 48% of total market.

On the life segment, CESKA pojistovna - the main arm of GENERALI CEE Holding B.V. - was the market leader (18.8% market share), followed by the two VIG subsidiaries: KOOPERATIVA pojistovna (15.5%) and Pojistovna Ceske sporitelny (14.3%).

CESKA pojistovna led the non-life ranking (24.8% of the market share), followed by KOOPERATIVA pojistovna - (30.0%) and ALLIANZ pojistovna (12.9%).
