15 September 2025 — Marina MAGNAVAL
Assets of the insurance sector in Kazakhstan from January to July grew by 14.4% to KZT 3.6 trillion (~EUR 5.84 billion), mainly as a result of growth in income from insurance activities, Allinsurance.kz writes with reference to the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market.

As of August 1, 2025, securities make up the largest part in the asset structure - 71.2% (KZT 2.5 trillion).

Insurers' liabilities from January to July increased by 16.2% to KZT 2.5 trillion thanks to growth in dividend obligations to shareholders. Equity increased by 10.3% to KZT 1.0 trillion, mainly due to growth in net profit for the reporting period. Net profit of insurers from January to July amounted to KZT 155 billion driven by income from insurance and investment activities.

The number of concluded insurance contracts for individuals and legal entities from January to July amounted to 15.2 million units, which is 19.5% more y-o-y. The growth driver is life insurance (2.3 million contracts).

GWP from January to July amounted to KZT 964.0 billion (~EUR 1.56 billion), which is 17.0% more y-o-y. This increase corresponds to an uptrend in the number of concluded contracts and indicates a rise in demand for insurance in the country, especially for voluntary types. The main driver of GWP growth is voluntary personal insurance, which over the first seven months of 2025 amounted to KZT 469.0 billion (+22.8%). The growth is mainly due to an increase in pension annuities and life insurance.

Voluntary property insurance in the reporting period amounted to KZT 340.5 billion, which is 15.1% more y-o-y. The growth is mainly driven by other financial losses insurance and property damage insurance.

Compulsory insurance from January to July 2025 amounted to KZT 154.6 billion, which is 5.6% more y-o-y. The increase is mainly observed in compulsory insurance of civil liability of vehicle owners.

Paid claims from January to July amounted to KZT 245.0 billion (~EUR 0.40 billion), which is 39.2% more y-o-y. This is mostly due to an increase in paid claims for voluntary property insurance by 60.4% to KZT 81.1 billion, the source writes.
