KYRGYZSTAN: MTPL paid claims exceed KGS 509 million (EUR 5 million) in a year and a half

Kyrgyzstan's MTPL insurers has paid out over KGS 509 million (~EUR 5.03 million) to victims in a short period of time, recording a sharp increase after the introduction of fines for absence of MTPL policy in July 2025, economist.kg reports, citing data from the Kyrgyz Association of Insurers.

The lion share of paid claims was in 2025, when payments totaled KGS 333.5 million. In the first quarter of 2026 alone, insurance companies paid out KGS 175.5 million, more than half of last year's total. A total of 1,848 insurance claims were recorded in the first three months of this year.

It is noted that almost all payments are related to property damage: KGS 326.9 million for 3,744 cases in 2025, and KGS 173.2 million for 1,820 cases in early 2026.

Payments for damage to life and health remain significantly lower – KGS 2.7 million in 2025 and KGS 768,000 in 2026. Payments in the event of death amounted to KGS 3.9 million and KGS 1.5 million, respectively, the source added.
