LATVIA: Car theft, the most feared risk, although it only represents 1% of the actual claims
furt_masinaCar theft or robbery are for 57% of the Latvian drivers the main reason of concern for which they feel CASCO insurance is useful, shows IF Insurance Internet survey in collaboration with Snapshots, which was attended by 631 drivers. Actually, insurers' compensation statistics show that stolen cars claims have not exceeded the 1% limit in recent years. Damages produced by a car crash (53%) or vandalism (52%) are the risks placed on the following second positions by the survey respondents.

At the same time IF insurance claims statistics show that most customers are paid compensation mostly in connection with the road traffic accidents (62%), windscreen damage (18%) and vandalism cases (10%). "There are stereotypes deeply ingrained in people's minds, although they have little to do with reality. Fears about a possible car theft is one of the best examples, although not the only one. For example, 19% of respondents indicate that an important factor in favor of the decision to purchase a CASCO policy is the "parking condition" imposed by the car guarded parking lots, although this requirement is for several years out of date. Often, customers are also interested in whether the compensation will be paid if other driver was behind the wheel at the time the accident took place. This stereotype was formed at a time when some insurance companies' CASCO customerswere asked, when purchasing a policy, to indicate the other persons who will use the car. Such a requirement is not an issue anymore", points out IF Insurance Motor claims team leader League BERZINS.

IF is one of the leading property and casualty insurance companies in the Nordic region with approximately 3.6 million customers. IF Insurance is part of Finnish Sampo Group and provides insurance to customers in national markets of Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Baltic countries and Russia.
