Despite this notable growth, bank deposits (48%) and real estate investments (32%) continue to rank as the preferred choices for Romanians seeking to allocate their financial resources, with only minor year-on-year fluctuations.
“The fact that life insurance recorded the largest increase among all the options analyzed shows that more and more Romanians are beginning to view financial protection and long-term planning as essential components of family stability. This is a positive sign of increasing financial maturity and a stronger insurance culture in Romania,” said Alexandru CIUNCAN, President and General Manager of UNSAR.
Life and health insurance products also feature among the top three insurance categories for which Romanians report growing interest, alongside home insurance and travel/health insurance, which share second place in the ranking.
The growing awareness of the importance of financial protection is also reflected in claims statistics. Romanian insurers paid out, on average, more than EUR 1.15 million every day in 2025 to policyholders who had taken steps in advance to secure their own financial stability and that of their families. Total life insurance claims exceeded EUR 421 million last year, up 12% compared to 2024.
“Financial education remains essential in supporting informed decision-making. At the same time, public policies and fiscal incentives are needed to encourage responsible financial behavior and long-term protection solutions,” noted Roxana BĂLUȚĂ, Life and Health Insurance Specialist and Program Coordinator at UNSAR.
