At the end of the first quarter of 2025, the insurance sector of Kazakhstan grew by 20.54%, reaching KZT 441.83 billion (EUR 815.07 million). Both life and non-life insurance recorded double-digit growth rates (in tenge), according to data published by the National Bank.
The share of life insurance in the market portfolio almost reached 33%, while the share of non-life insurance decreased by more than 3% y-o-y.
Among the insurance classes, it is worth noting noticeable growth of insurance against accidents, which grew by almost 208% in the first quarter. At the same time, some insurance classes demonstrated a y-o-y decrease, such as property insurance, Motor Hull, GTPL, financial losses and compulsory insurance of workers against accidents.
Insurers' paid claims increased by 35.94%, reaching KZT 91.43 billion (EUR 168.68 million). Almost all insurance classes recorded a significant increase of paid claims, especially GTPL (+277.84%), property insurance (+60.96%), life insurance (+53.12%).
Of the 25 insurers active on the market as of the end of the first quarter of 2025, EURASIA ranked first in terms of GWP (KZT 68.90 billion). While HALYK-Life, which was the leader a year earlier, moved to fourth place. Freedom Life and NOMAD LIFE ranked second and third, respectively.
