"If there are more and more cars in traffic, the risk of getting into an accident increases. Last year, the snowy winter at the beginning and end of last year definitely contributed to the increase in traffic accidents, which made the traffic conditions dangerous and the roads slippery", said LKF manager Mart Jesse.
By the end of 2022, the number of insured vehicles increased to over 850,000, which is 25,000 more than in 2021.
According to Jesse, last year's total losses increased due to both the number of accidents and inflation.
"Vehicle repairs have become significantly more expensive due to inflation, and medical costs have also increased, both of which affect insurers' costs. If there are more road accidents in addition to this, it will inevitably be transferred to insurance premiums," LKF manager explained. In 2022, total motor insurance premiums increased by 22%, reaching EUR 102.8 million.
