By the end of September 2022, for all non-life classes the number of claims paid exceeded 70,000, which is 29% more y-o-y.
Insurers collected MKD 3 billion (EUR 48.5 million) for insured movable and immovable property, private health, motor liability, comprehensive, travel and other types of insurance for the first 9 months of 2022. All 11 insurance companies paid out more than 70,000 claims during the mentioned period, which is 29% more y-o-y, according to the data submitted to the ISA by 11 non-life insurance companies.
The greatest growth in the amount paid and the number of claims paid is in health (private, additional, and voluntary) insurance. Until the end of September, the companies paid out over 30,000 claims for health expenses to their policyholders., and this number has doubled compared to the same period of 2021.
The total amount of paid medical expenses covered by private health insurance is MDK 278 million (EUR 4.5 million) or 93% more y-o-y. This means excessive use of private health insurance, especially for preventive examinations. But despite that, the increased penetration of private health insurance significantly contributes to raising the insurance culture and generally increases public awareness of the need for insurance.
In property insurance, the largest voluntary non-life class, MKD 449.2 million (EUR 7.3 million) were paid for this period under almost 6,000 claims. The amount paid and the number of claims is almost same as a year ago.
As expected, the most claims were paid out in the largest insurance class - motor liability. For the first 9 months of 2022, the companies paid over 21,000 damages worth MKD 1.57 billion (EUR 25.5 million). The amount and number of claims paid is almost same as a year ago.
Triglav Insurance has the largest share in the total amount of paid claims for this period. This is expected because this company has the largest share in insurance sales. On the other hand, during the period, Croatia insurance, non-life company, had the largest increase in the amount of claims paid.
