In the first quarter of 2026, Georgia's insurance market grew by 15.10% in local currency, reaching GEL 521.34 million (EUR 168 million), according to data published by the State Insurance Supervision Service of Georgia.
Non-life insurance continues to dominate the market, accounting for over 92%. Health insurance traditionally generates the largest volume of premiums, with insurers collecting GEL 303 million in the first quarter of 2026, or 58.13% of the total. Motor insurance (Motor Hull) ranks second with GEL 93.5 million, and life insurance ranks third, growing almost 26% y-o-y to GEL 40.7 million.
It's worth noting that paid claims in the market also increased y-o-y. Specifically, the total amount of paid claims in the first three months of 2026 reached GEL 200.15 million (EUR 64.50 million), which is 13.39% more y-o-y.
In January-March the companies' underwriting profit amounted to GEL 94 million, while net profit was GEL 31 million. Total assets of insurance companies reached GEL 1,802 million, and capital amounted to GEL 528 million.
Of the 19 insurance companies operating in the market, Imedi L, TBC Insurance, and GPI Holding led the market in terms of GWP. It's worth noting that Imedi L rose from third place a year ago to first place, while the former leader, GPI Holding, moved down to rank three.
