Insurers of North Macedonia have written gross premiums worth EUR 79.7 million in the three months of 2025, which is 18.07% more y-o-y, maintaining the pace established in Q1 2024. Paid claims increased by ~10%, to EUR 25.8 million.

The market portfolio structures remained quasi unchanged, with non-life insurance maintaining a dominant position. The only notable changes were recorded for the fire insurance and compulsory MTPL insurance classes which saw a significantly increasing share in the market portfolio.

Premiums written for life insurance only increased by 4.5%, to EUR 12.2 million. The good news came from the property insurance segment, which saw GWP for fire insurance almost doubling y-o-y, to EUR 10.38 million. Probably the lessons learned from the ever-increasing presence of extreme weather events have started raising awareness about climate risks. However, the is still a large protection gap in place.
